OFFICE BUILDINGS AND CORPORATE HEADQUARTERS
Facility Planning, Programming and Design Review

H. E. Butt Grocery Company; San Antonio, Texas; The H.E.B. Grocery Company Corporate Headquarters, located on the historic Riverwalk in San Antonio, Texas now houses an 1,500 person program that incorporated all the needs of the diverse headquarters divisions needed to run a 65,000 employee, multi-store grocery company. The headquarters buildings include administra­tion, the corporate wide data center, management information systems, accounting for all stores, advertising, printing, product buying, store design and real estate--all in a group of historic buildings. Involvement included review of the existing facility after five and ten years of occupancy, reprogramming to accommodate rapid growth and management reorganization, space planning and project management for a multiple expansion and remodeling programs. Project involvement has grown to include multiple locations including the headquarters, distribution, district and satellite facilities. On-going consultancy, 1987 to present. Additional projects in Austin, Dallas, Houston, Corpus Christi, Edinburgh, and San Antonio.

City of Boston, Massachusetts; Public Facilities Department; Space programming and master planning for the consolidation of the Boston Public Schools Department and Public Facilities Department into 26 Court Street. This project included extensive management interviews. Final program comprised 170,000 square feet, building code and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance, proposed stacking plans and analysis of critical inter-departmental adjacencies. Study completed: September, 1992. Anticipated construction and reconfiguration costs: $3.9 million.

IBM Corporation; Essex Junction, Vermont; White Plains, New York and St. Louis, Missouri; Working jointly with MIT's Laboratory of Research and Planning and BDI, assisted in development of a post-occupancy evaluation approach for the IBM Corporation and its office buildings. This included organizing teams of engineers, architects, psychologists, and experts in lighting and acoustics to evaluate various IBM offices, design practices and facility design standards.

The Boston Company; Boston, Massachusetts; Project manager responsible for programming, design, managing construction, and renovation of numerous departments and divisions for this 1800 person financial investment company. Oversaw facilities management and design efforts in a several buildings including a 40 story office tower, an historic Back Bay office building, and suburban and branch facilities.

Computer Solutions; San Antonio, Texas; Project Architect for the corporate reorganization of dividing the office, sales and service components of a $40 million per year retail computer dealer from the warehouse and equipment configuration operation. Resultant project comprised evaluation of lease space and space planning for a new warehouse and configuration facility, and space planning, design development and furniture/equipment procurement for the reconfiguration of the existing front office location. More recent project includes relocation of Corporate Headquarters/Sales offices to new high-technology office building maximizing reuse of existing infrastructure, augmenting furniture inventory and programming for strategic business changes and continued future expansion.

Supermercados Internationales HEB; Monterrey, Mexico; Facilities Programming and Space Planning for the international subsidiary of the H. E. Butt Grocery Company. Working with a local architect and management team, developed corporate headquarters facility to consolidate a fledgling organization out of seven separate lease spaces. Simultaneous development of base building by local developer, interior fit up documents by local architect and refinement of programmatic issues, space planning and actual build-out resulted in relocation into new facility 12 months after commencement of project. On-going involvement in facilities management, space planning and architectural consulting. 1998 to present.

Nelson Group of Companies; Waltham, Massachusetts; Engaged to perform Design Review for the Hillside Office Building, to provide future tenants with the highest possible level of office environmental quality. Responsible for reviewing and coordinating the plans of the building's architects, mechanical and electrical engineers, and facilities manager, during the design development phase.

USA Cinemas; Boston, Massachusetts; Project Manager responsible for the physical reorganization of USA Cinema's home office headquarters. Programmed, designed and oversaw construction, finishing and installation of modular work stations to accommodate rapid change in this growing organization. Programm­ing and design efforts comprised consolidation and renovation of offices for senior management, operations personnel, advertising and art departments, and lease space selection, fit-up and occupancy of an off-site financial management and accounting department.

Fox & Fowle Architects; New York City, New York; Project Manager during working closely with architects Fox & Fowle, to program and design a pedestrian park in the 17 Penn Plaza Building in New ---York City. Based on systematic observations and interviews of similar New York City spaces in the IBM Building (56th Street), CityBank Building (53rd Street), and Park Avenue Plaza (52nd Street), the project resulted in both a program and zoning change request.

The Shareholder Services Group; Boston, Massachusetts; Project Manager for this American Express Company subsidiary. Managed consolidation and reorganization of its work force into a self-contained facility. Worked closely with the new management organization to develop a facilities management support system and systematically plan for immediate and future needs for their office environment.

Interstate Theaters Corporation; Boston, Massachusetts; Project Architect assisting corporate decision makers in lease space evaluation, programming for an expanding organization, space planning, construction management and furniture procurement for a new headquarters facility.

Wasserman/Kane Offices; Boston, Massachusetts; Project Manager for programming, design and fit-up of new corporate offices for a Public Relations and Events Planning firm.

3M/Medical Surgical Division Offices; Cambridge, Massachusetts; Project architect for reconfiguration and renovation of antiquated conference and lunchroom space. Full architectural and interior design services provided.

Tremont-on-the-Commons Condominium Trust Management Offices; Boston, Massachusetts; Project architect for planning, design and construction supervision for new management offices.

Tyson Ticket Agency; Boston, Massachusetts; Project Architect for minor interior modifications within the commercial condominium space.

H.E. Butt Grocery Company; Dallas, Texas: Consulting Architect for office renovations, space planning and furniture specification and procurement for regional office facility.

H.E. Butt Grocery Company; Houston, Texas: Consulting Architect for office renovations, space planning and furniture specification and procurement for regional office facilities, including aggregating several district offices into a single unified administrative facility.

Human Services Management Corporation; Milford, Massachusetts: corporate office planning, new building design, and expansion of existing leased office facilities planning and renovation design.
